What would you do if you need light in a park restroom; but no electricity was anywhere near the location. Answer: Call Jeffries Electric. We answered the problem with a low power lamp that runs off a battery. The 12 Volt battery is charged by the sun. (photo voltaic cell)
I just now finished designing the prototype light system for the Texas Parks and Wildlife. The design engineer left enough room in the specs so that I could choose as many made in America components as possible.
I will have pictures up soon as I assemble the parts and test everything. I have bench tested the system and it is very simple. The actual installation will be in July and I will then post pictures and let you know about the park.
I’m sure you have seen roadside warning signs for school zones and traffic areas that are powered by a square black panel mounted on the pole above the lights. This panel uses the rays of the sun to produce voltage and current flow. During the day, the battery charges and the lights are off or used maybe twice a day.
- This system for the parks dept is totally 12 Volts DC and that was the only issue. In order to turn the lights on and off in the restroom, a motion sensor is necessary. All the really good over the counter motion sensor and time delay modules are for offices and home use. They operate at 120 Volt AC and above.
- Oh yea, the light and the motion sensor has to be vandal resistant also. There are plenty of lights available but no 12V motion sensors. I found a great solution to this by using a very accurate motion sensor from an alarm system and a time delay module that will turn off the light after a predetermined time.
- These tried and true components should work for many years before they need more than a good cleaning for the light fixture.

- We can save energy and still enjoy our light
